Cape Town – Daniel Smit, 58, has been found guilty in the Western Cape High Court of multiple charges related to the death of 13-year-old Jerobejin van Wyk.
The charges include premeditated murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, violating a corpse, and obstructing justice.
The incident occurred in February 2022 in Klawer, Western Cape, after Jerobejin was allegedly chased, struck by Smit’s vehicle, and later killed over stealing mangoes.

Smit, who was evaluated for mental fitness due to alleged cultist beliefs, was declared fit for trial in September 2023.
The teenager’s remains were discovered in a septic tank at Smit’s residence, and DNA confirmed the identity.
