Cape Town – Western Cape premier Alan Winde has expressed his disappointment after the Western Cape Police Ombud’s final report confirmed links between gangsters and the police in the province.
South African Police Services (SAPS) launched an investigation following allegations made by Western Cape High Court Judge, Daniel Thulare who accused the police of colluding with gangs in organised crimes, reported IOL.
The report said that Judge Thulare made the statement, as he denied bail to alleged gangsters in a case that pointed to evidence to how alleged police officers who were in the pockets of gangs shared confidential police information with gangsters for their personal gain.
According to EWN, Winde said he was still consulting legal experts on how to deal with the findings of the report.

In a statement, Winde said the Ombud’s final report revealed that gang members had infiltrated the top management structures of the police service in the province, and were accessing key documents and strategies on crime fighting.
“I am now carefully studying the Ombud’s report, which concluded that the allegations are likely substantiated, and considering my next steps.
“One of the first steps I took is meeting with the SAPS provincial Commissioner Lt Gen (Adv) Thembisile Patekile to discuss the findings of the report. I will be holding further engagements on the Ombud’s report & will share this with the public when possible,” said Winde.
The findings revealed that the organised 28 gang had access to policing information and could influence police decisions to avoid arrests or any disruptions to their criminal activities, reported kaya9595.
