Cape Town – A father was reportedly shot and killed, as he tried to intervene and stop a hijacking outside his child’s school in Soweto on Tuesday.
Reports said that the tragic incident, which was witnessed by pupils, occurred outside Faranani Primary School’s gate.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Mavela Masondo, three men pounced on a woman parked outside the school and demanded car keys, News24 reported

“It is alleged that the man who witnessed the hijacking tried to intervene [and] the suspects shot at him. The suspects jumped into the woman’s vehicle and drove away. The man was certified dead on the scene,” the report quoted Masondo as saying.
Gauteng education departement’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona said that their psychosocial team would provide the necessary counselling and support to the school, reported TimesLIVE.
“The incident happened in front of the school’s main gate, in full view of learners and staff members,” Mabona said.
Mabona also conveyed condolences to the family of the deceased on behalf of the department.
According to EWN, police were investigating,
