Cape Town – Two Emergency Response (ER24) personnel in the North West province were reportedly robbed at gunpoint while transporting a critically ill patient on Tuesday.
In a statement, ER24 said that the incident happened on the R510 between Mogwase and Rustenburg.
The medics were transporting a critically ill patient to his home from the hospital.
On the way, the patient’s vital signs began to diminish rapidly.
The medics were forced to pull the ambulance off to the side of the road and assist the patient.
They initiated CPR in an effort to revive the patient.

“Whilst treating the patient, three armed men approached the ambulance, pulled open the door and robbed the medics of their personal belongings, as well as the patient’s belongings,” ER24 said in a statement.
Earlier the medics had called an ER24 advanced life support paramedic to render assistance to the resuscitation. On arrival, the ER24 advanced life support paramedic noticed the ongoing robbery.
The armed men fled the scene.
“The ER24 medics continued to perform CPR and advanced life support interventions on the patient. Unfortunately, after some time, no vital signs returned, and the patient was declared dead.
“A case was opened at the Phokeng Police station for further investigations,” the statement said.
