Cape Town – South Africa has recorded a total of 3 504 554 positive cases of Covid-19, with 9 860 new cases identified in the past 24 hours, said the National Department of Health on Thursday.
At least 551 deaths have also been reported, bringing the total number of Covid-19 related deaths to 92 112 since the pandemic hit the country.
“As of today the cumulative number of #COVID19 cases identified in SA is 3 504 554 with 9 860 new cases reported. Today 551 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 92 112 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 260 642 with a recovery rate of 93%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 46 948 tests were conducted with a positivity rate of 21%.
Western Cape accounted for the majority of cases with 2 632 new cases, followed by Gauteng (2 123) and KwaZulu-Natal (2 036).
