Cape Town – South Africa has recorded a total of 3 546 808 Covid-19 cases, with 5 920 new cases identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Thursday.
A further 159 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 92 989 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 546 808 with 5 920 new cases reported. Today 159 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 92 989 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 346 936 with a recovery rate of 94.4%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 41 438 tests were conducted with a positivity rate of 14.3%.
The majority of new cases were from Western Cape (25%), followed by Gauteng (20%), and Kwa-Zulu Natal (19%).
“A total of 43,494 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 6,762 new cases, which represents a 15.5% positivity rate. A further 181 #Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 92,830 to date,” NICD said.
