Cape Town – South Africa’s total number of positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 3 568 900 after 4 322 new infections were identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Wednesday.
A further 156 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 93 707 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 568 900 with 4 322 new cases reported. Today 156 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 93 707 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 390 027 with a recovery rate of 95%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 40 654 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 10.6%.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng Province (24%), followed by Western Cape (23%), and KwaZulu-Natal (16%).
At the bottom is the Northern Cape with only 4% of newly recorded cases.

“Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of #Covid-19 mortality cases reported. Today, the NDoH reports 156 deaths and of these, 36 occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 93 707 to date,” the health department said in a statement.
