Cape Town – South Africa recorded 4 100 new Covid-19 infections and 160 Covid-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Thursday.
The increase in infections brings the accumulative number to 3 594 499.
The total number of fatalities now stands at 94 651 since the pandemic hit the county in March 2020.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 594 499 with 4 100 new cases reported. Today 160 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 94 651 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 432 829 with a recovery rate of 95.5%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 38 912 tests were conducted with a positivity rate of 10.5%.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (29%), followed by Western Cape (15%) and Kwa-Zulu Natal (13%).
At the bottom is the Northern Cape, accounting for only 2%.
“38 912 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 4,100 new cases, representing a 10.5% positivity rate. Today, @HealthZA reports 160 deaths, of which 34 occurred in the past 24-48 hours,” NICD said.
