Covid-19: South Africa records 3 266 new infections, 82 deaths

Cape Town – South Africa’s total number of positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 3 616 075 after 3 266 new infections were identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Thursday.

At least 82 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 95 545 to date, the department said.

“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 616 075 with 3 266 new cases reported. Today 82 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 95 545 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 465 681 with a recovery rate of 95.8%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 30 785 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 10.6%.

The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (1 005), followed by Western Cape (547), and KwaZulu-Natal (396).

At the bottom was the Northern Cape with only 69 newly recorded cases.

“30 785 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 3 266 new cases, representing a 10.6% positivity rate. Today, @HealthZA reports 82 deaths, of which 12 occurred in the past 24-48 hours. Total fatalities are 95,545 to date,” said the NICD in a statement.
