Cape Town – South Africa’s total number of positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 3 585 888 after 3 197 new infections were identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Tuesday.
At least 132 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 94 397 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 585 888 with 3 197 new cases reported. Today 132 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 94 397 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 418 123 with a recovery rate of 95.3%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 36 216 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 8.8%.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (28%), followed by Kwa-Zulu Natal (15%), Western Cape (14%).
At the bottom was the Northern Cape with only 2% of newly recorded cases.
