Cape Town – South Africa’s total number of positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 3 634 811 after 3 169 new infections were identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Thursday.
At least 203 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 96 705 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 634 811 with 3 169 new cases reported. Today 203 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 96 705 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 494 016 with a recovery rate of 96.1%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 36 113tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 8.8%.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (1 003), followed by Western Cape (590), KwaZulu-Natal (446).
At the bottom was the Northern Cape with only 58 newly recorded cases.
“36 113 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 3 169 new cases, representing an 8.8% positivity rate. Today, @HealthZA reports 203 deaths, of which 12 occurred in the past 24-48 hours. Total fatalities are 96,705 to date,” NICD said.
