Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 3 056 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 3 652 024 since the start of the pandemic, the National Department of Health said on Thursday.
This increase represents a 8.8% positivity rate, with 34 536 tests conducted in both private and public hospitals.
At least 435 Covid-related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 97 955.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 652 024 with 3 056 new cases reported. Today 435 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 97 955 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 515 196 with a recovery rate of 96.3%,” the department said in a statement.

Gauteng accounted for the majority of cases, with 1 129 new infections, followed by Western Cape (536), and KwaZulu-Natala (414).
At the bottom was Northern Cape, with just 60 new cases.
