Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 2 824 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 3 626 014 since the start of the pandemic, the National Department of Health said on Tuesday.
This increase represents a 8.2% positivity rate, with 34 620 tests conducted in both private and public hospitals.
At least 268 Covid-related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 96 289.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 626 014 with 2 824 new cases reported. Today 268 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 96 289 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 488 980 with a recovery rate of 96.2%,” said the health department in a statement.

Gauteng accounted for the majority of cases, with 997 new infections, followed by KwaZulu-Natal (462), Western Cape (425).
At the least was Northern Cape, with just 41 new cases.
