Cape Town – South Africa recorded 2 364 new Covid-19 infections and 181 Covid-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Tuesday.
The increase in infections brings the accumulative number to 3 645 269.
The total number of fatalities now stands at 97 431 since the pandemic hit the county in March 2020.
“As of today, the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 645 269 with 2 364 new cases reported. Today 181 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 97 431 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 3 511 001 with a recovery rate of 96.3%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 30 731tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 7.7%.
The majority of the new Covid-19 cases came from Gauteng (983), followed by Western Cape (374) and KwaZulu-Natal (326).
At the bottom was the Northern Cape, with only 43 newly recorded cases in the past 24 hours.
“30 731 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 2 364 new cases, representing a 7.7% positivity rate. Today @HealthZA reports 181 deaths; of which 7 occurred in the past 24–48 hours, bringing total fatalities to 97,431,” NICD said.
