Cape Town – South Africa recorded 17 154 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the country’s cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 3 129 623, the National Department of Health said on Saturday.
A total number of 104 831 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 16.4%.
The department said 36 deaths were reported, bringing the total to 90 116 deaths since the virus’s outbreak in March last year.
“As of today the cumulative number of #COVID19 cases identified in SA is 3 129 623 with 17 154 new cases reported. Today 36 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 90 116 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 2 880 472 with a recovery rate of 92,0%,” the department said in a statement.

Gauteng continued to lead, with 8 521 new infections, followed by KwaZulu-Natal (2 571) and the Western Cape (1 534).
At the least was the Nothern Cape with 236 new recorded cases.
