Cape Town – South Africa’s total number of positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 3 677 686 after 1 995 new infections were identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Wednesday.
At least 28 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 99 458 to date, the department said.
“As of today, the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 677 686 with 1 995 new cases reported. Today 28 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 99 458 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 3 552 788 with a recovery rate of 96.6%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 26 608 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 7.5%.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (747), followed by Western Cape (425), and KwaZulu-Natal (335).
At the bottom was the Northern Cape with only 44 newly recorded cases.
“26 608 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 1 995 new cases, which represents a 7.5% positivity rate. Today @HealthZA reports 28 deaths; of which 5 occurred in the past 24–48 hrs. Total fatalities are 99 458 to date,” NICD said.
