Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 1 980 new Covid-19 cases, the National Department of Health said on Wednesday, under the latest review cycle.
This brings the total number of positive cases to 3 698 803.
A total of 40 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing the total fatalities to 99 767 since the discovery of the virus in the country.
“As of today, the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 698 803 with 1 980 new cases reported. Today 40 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 99 767 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 3 584 293 with a recovery rate of 96.9%,” said the health department in a statement.

The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (764), followed by Western Cape (493), and Kwa-Zulu Natal (317).
“32 093 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 1 980 new cases, which represents a 6.2% positivity rate. Today @HealthZA reports 40 deaths; of which 3 occurred in the past 24–48 hrs. Total fatalities are 99 767 to date,” National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD) said.
