Cape Town – South Africa’s total number of positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 3 581 359 after 1 931 new infections were identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Sunday.
A further 114 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 94 177 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 581 359 with 1931 new cases reported. Today 114 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 94 177 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 411 555 with a recovery rate of 95.3%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 22 567 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 8.6%.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng Province (494), followed by Western Cape (386), and KwaZulu-Natal (371).
At the bottom is the Free State with only 59 newly recorded cases.

“Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of #COVID19 mortality cases reported. Today, the NDoH reports 114 deaths and of these, 17 occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 94 177 to dat[e],” the health department said in a statement.
