Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 1 898 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 3 681 437 since the start of the pandemic, the National Department of Health said on Friday.
This increase represents a 6.3% positivity rate, with 30 153 tests conducted in both private and public hospitals.
At least 18 Covid-related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 99 517.
“As of today, the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 681 437 with 1 898 new cases reported. Today 18 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 99 517 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 3 557 369 with a recovery rate of 96.6%,” said the health department in a statement.

Gauteng accounted for the majority of cases, with 707 new infections, followed by Western Cape (421), KwaZulu-Natal (327).
At the least was Northern Cape, with just 24 new cases.
