Cape Town – South Africa’s total number of positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 3 707 089 after 1 393 new infections were identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Thursday.
At least 6 Covid-19 related deaths were reported. Total fatalities stand at 99 899 to date, the department said.
“As of today, the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 707 089 with 1 393 new cases reported. Today 06 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 99 899 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 3 594 194 with a recovery rate of 97.0%,” the department said in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 32 294 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 6.6%.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (741), followed by Western Cape (623), and KwaZulu-Natal (354).
At the bottom was the Northern Cape with only 23 newly recorded cases.
