Cape Town – South Africa’s total number of positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 3 605 222 after 1 366 new infections were identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Monday.
At least 71 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 95 093 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 605 222 with 1 366 new cases reported. Today 71 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 95 093 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 456 461 with a recovery rate of 95.9%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 36 216 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 8.8%.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (41%), followed by Western Cape (14%), and KwaZulu-Natal (13%).
At the bottom was the Northern Cape, with only 2% of newly recorded cases.
