Cape Town – South Africa’s total number of positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 3 625 190 after 1 228 new infections were identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Monday.
A total of 186 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 96 021 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 625 190 with 1 228 new cases reported. Today 186 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 96 021 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 482 274 with a recovery rate of 96.1%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 16 067 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 7.6%.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (41%), followed by Mpumalanga (14%), and the Western Cape (13%).
At the bottom is the Northern Cape with only 2% of newly recorded cases.
