Cape Town – South Africa recorded 1 085 new Covid-19 infections and 195 Covid-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Tuesday.
The increase in infections brings the accumulative number to 3 608 307.
The total number of fatalities now stands at 95 288 since the pandemic hit the county in March 2020.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 608 307 with 1 085 new cases reported. Today 195 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 95 288 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 459 418 with a recovery rate of 95.9%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 35 067 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 8.8%.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (32%), followed by Kwa-Zulu Natal and Western Cape accounting for 14% respectively.
At the bottom was the Northern Cape, accounting for only 3%.
