Cape Town – Free State police reportedly arrested a couple this week after they allegedly disarmed a traffic officer.
According to IOL, the officer was conducting a vehicle check at Long Market Street on Wednesday.
He tried to stop the couple’s car but the driver did not stop, thus, leading to a highspeed chase.
On the R57 into Phiritona, the driver eventually stopped.
Upon checking the car, the officer discovered that the car was not roadworthy.
He tried issuing the driver with a fine but he refused, and an argument ensued.

The officer then tried arresting the driver but he became aggressive and refused.
The driver grabbed the officer’s firearm which they fought over until the magazine fell on the ground. It was picked up by the suspect’s wife and they both left, police said, according to the report.
The driver was later handed over to the police by his sister-in-law after hearing about the incident.
Police found the wife at an informal settlement in Phiritona, and she was in possession of the magazine and ammunition.
They were charged with common robbery and possession of ammunition.
