Cape Town – Two flying squad police officers were arrested on Thursday in Mpumalanga after a high-speed car chase during which they were found with guns and explosives.
According to The Citizen, the officers, part of the White River Flying Squad, were transporting firearms and explosives from Schoemansdal to KaNyamazane.
They evaded police attempts to stop their vehicle, but eventually, their car was immobilised.
A joint effort involving the Provincial Tracking Team, the National Crime Intelligence, and the Bravolor-Risk resulted in the retrieval of six rifles, two pistols, a bag of explosives, along with an explosives cable and battery.
One officer was immediately arrested, another was apprehended hiding nearby, and a third officer is still at large, the report said.
The arrested officers are expected to face charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and contravention of the Explosives Act.
