Cape Town – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has indicated that a confession related to the alleged kidnapping and human trafficking of six-year-old Joshlin Smith will eventually be presented in court.
The case involves Joshlin’s mother, Kelly Smith, Jacquen Appollis, Steveno van Rhyn, and Lourentia Lombaard, with Lombaard reportedly confessing after being questioned about her involvement.
According to EWN, the matter was adjourned for further investigation, with the accused appearing in the Vredenburg Magistrates Court.
The state is currently reviewing forensic and cellphone data analysis from Lombaard, with the details of her confession not yet disclosed.

NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila stated that while the confession cannot be discussed presently, it may be revealed in the future, potentially during a bail application or trial.
“As was mentioned in court there was a confession that she made, but unfortunately that confession we cannot speak about now, as the trial has not started. It may come up if one of them applies for bail, especially her,” the report quoted Ntabazalila as saying.
The case’s venue could also change depending on the investigation’s outcome.
Meanwhile, Joshlin’s mother expressed having had a “nice” Mother’s Day on Sunday despite being in custody, emphasising her love for her daughter, Times Live reported.
She made these remarks while leaving the dock after a brief court appearance alongside her boyfriend, Jacquin “Boeta” Appollis, Steveno van Rhyn, and Lourentia Lombard.
The four are charged with kidnapping and human trafficking following Joshlin’s disappearance from their home in February.
Western Cape MEC for police oversight and community safety, Reagen Allen, acknowledged the difficult time for the community as it marks day 84 since Joshlin’s disappearance, expressing hope for her safe return.
“This case has placed missing persons front and centre in our province.
“We are hoping Joshlin will be found,” the report quoted Allen as saying.
The case has been postponed to July 15.
