Cape Town – The Constitutional Court will hold a special ceremonial sitting on Wednesday morning to honour outgoing Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, who is set to retire at the end of August after 27 years of service in the judiciary.
Chief Justice Zondo will deliver his final judgment on the day.
“Deputy Chief Justice Mandisa Maya, Justices of the Constitutional Court, Judicial Officers as well as representatives of the Executive, Parliament and the legal profession will participate in this event,” the Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) said in a statement.
Zondo began his legal career under anti-Apartheid activist Victoria Mxenge before becoming a judge in 1997.
He has held several key positions, including Judge-President of the Labour Court and Chairperson of the State Capture Commission.
Zondo has served as Chief Justice since April 2022, and his retirement marks the end of a distinguished career in South Africa’s judiciary.
