Cape Town – A 37-year-old soccer coach in KwaZulu-Natal appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of raping young boys.
The alleged rapes occurred over a six-month period between November 2022 and May 2023, reports said.
“The man, a soccer coach, is alleged to have raped the minor children from November 2022 to May 2023,” NPA spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said, according to IOL.
The accused faced seven counts of rape and chose not to apply for bail.
“He subsequently abandoned his application for bail and the matter was remanded to 26 June 2023 for further investigations, he is charged with seven counts for rape,” EWN quoted Ramkisson-Kara as saying.
The case was postponed to 26 June for further investigation.
Meanwhile, eNCA reported on Tuesday that another case had been opened against the coach.
Three boys aged between 11 and 15 from the same family had Initially come forward and shared how they were raped.
“A fourth victim has now also laid charges and the community is calling on any other possible victims to report the coach”, the report said.
The accused, who runs an amateur soccer team in Ntuzuma, cannot be named to protect the victims’ identities.
