Cape Town – Head of Diplomacy in the Department of International Relations and Co-operation (Dirco), Clayson Monyela, says South Africa will seek answers over Eswatini’s recent utterance on crime in the country.
“We’ll use diplomatic channels to seek an explanation from the Kingdom of Eswatini regarding this unfortunate statement by their spokesperson. No country is immune to crime. That’s why we all have criminal justice systems. We won’t tolerate insults,” wrote Monyela on Twitter.
This was after the Eswatini government spokesperson, Alpheus Nxumalo, commented on claims made by former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) secretary-general Godrich Gardee, linking Eswatini to the murder of his daughter, Hillary.

Although Gardee did not give any further details, he alleged that Eswatini was connected to the murder of his daughter.
But Nxumalo denied the accusations.
Speaking during an interview on SAfm Nxumalo said: “It is a very unfortunate development in SA, but not a new one. SA is infested with a cancer of criminality from head to toe.”
He also took a swing at Godrich, suggesting that he should have used his position as a Member of Parliament back in 2020 to curb crime instead of pushing what he described as “conspiracy theories”.
While some social media users thought there was some truth to Nxumalo’s statement, others felt his utterances were disrespectful to the country.
Hillary went missing on April 29 after a shopping trip to a Spar near her home in Mbombela, Mpumalanga.
She was found dead in a field outside Mbombela, Mpumalanga on May 3 with a gun wound on her head.
Three suspects were arrested and charged with murder, rape, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, and possession of illegal firearms.
