Johannesburg — The City of Johannesburg has criticised an attempt to serve former city manager, Floyd Brink, with an arrest warrant following a legal dispute over rates owed to the city by a resident.
According to Johannesburg mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda, expressed concern over the attempt ay Brink’s residence, saying it undermined his rights and that of his family. According to the city, the warrant was defective and erroneous and could not be legally executed, TimesLIVE reported..
Gwamanda said the matter arises outside of the official capacity of the city manager and his official responsibilities, adding that if it were a legal arrest, it would have taken place at a known business address, not his private residence.
“The city manager has been the target of incessant harassment by certain political actors using the courts to compromise and prevent him from exercising his duties,” he said.
Gwamanda has instructed the city’s legal team to lodge an urgent application to the court to stay the execution of the warrant.

Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku accused the “administration” of being willing to do “anything and everything” in their power to undermine the rule of law to protect Brink.
“The fact that 13 unmarked vehicles were preventing a court order from being enforced makes one wonder if these are the VIP protectors paid for by the ratepayer. These actions by police make them part of our corruption problem instead of helping us solve crime and corruption,” Kayser-Echeozonjoku said.
