Cape Town – The cholera death toll has reached 32, with the Free State confirming its second death.
EWN reported that a 42-year-old woman from Parys had died in Boitumelo Hospital in Kroonstad. This followed the death last month of a 33-year-old woman from Vredefort.
Most of the deaths, 29 in total, have been reported in Gauteng, with one fatality each in Mpumalanga and two in the Free State, according to IOL, quoting Health Department spokesperson Foster Mohale.
Hammanskraal in Gauteng has been the epicentre of the cholera outbreak.
The Department of Health said the country had recorded 166 laboratory-confirmed cases and 202 suspected cases of cholera in five provinces.
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa has said that it is going to take R4 billion to address the water issues in Hammanskraal, EWN reported.
The president said this while speaking at the Temba Stadium in Hammanskraal.

Ramaphosa inspected the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment plant – which releases water to the Leeuwkraal Dam – the source for the Temba Water Treatment Plant that supplies water to Hammanskraal.
“This is precisely what is going to be attended to. There have been all those errors and mistakes, which I have admitted to, and they must be corrected,” the report quoted him as saying.
