Cape Town – Two people died and three others were critically injured after a head-on collision between two trucks on the N2 highway near Zinkwazi in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.
The accident occurred at around 06:00, and one of the trucks was carrying alcohol, which led to chaos as bystanders looted the vehicle, IOL reported.
The N2 highway was closed, and traffic was being redirected over the bridge.
Emergency services, including IPSS Medical Rescue, the KDM Fire Department, and the Rural Metro Fire Department, worked to rescue the trapped individuals.
One critically injured patient was airlifted to the hospital, while the other two were transported by ambulance.
“According to reports the initial collision occurred when the smaller truck was rear-ended by one of the larger trucks.
“The larger truck then veered across the road resulting in the head on collision with a third large truck.“
The deceased individuals were on the back of the smaller truck, while the driver and passengers sustained minor injuries.
The driver of one of the larger trucks suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital for further treatment.
