Cape Town – Residents from the Praktiseer community outside Burgersfort have reportedly celebrated the death of Kabelo Phoku, known as “KB”.
According to Lowvelder, KB was allegedly killed by a mob after being caught robbing a resident.
He was believed to have led a gang involved in various criminal activities, including robberies and attempted murders in the community.
The mob intervened when KB stabbed a man at about 04:40 on Friday, resulting in his death.
“He stabbed a man who was heading to work with a knife. The victim fought back while a mob came to rescue him. They allegedly killed Phoku,” the report quoted a source from the township as saying.
Photographs of KB’s bloodied body circulated on social media, and community members celebrated as his body was taken away by pathologists, the report said.
While acknowledging that celebrating death is not typical, some locals expressed relief, hoping that KB’s demise would lead to the disbandment of his gang and bring peace to the area.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
