Cape Town – In a recently emerged video drawing significant social media attention, a Mpumalanga traffic officer and a motorist engaged in a heated verbal confrontation, with tensions escalating to mutual threats and challenges.
The altercation escalated, with the officer allegedly threatening physical harm, and the motorist daring her to act.
The officer expressed frustration at being recorded and threatens to confiscate the motorist’s phone, while the motorist remained defiant.
The situation intensified further as the motorist challenged the officer to take his phone, leading to a threat of physical violence from the officer.
The exchange took a personal turn, with both parties exchanging heated words.
In comments on the video, opinions were divided, with some suggesting the motorist should remain calm if he is in the wrong, while others argued that the officer should not act on her emotions.
The incident added to concerns about police conduct, as the Johannesburg Metro Police Department was already investigating the alleged assault of a motorist by police officers in Randburg in a separate incident, according to The Citizen.
The altercation reportedly occurred when officers wanted to impound the motorist’s vehicle due to an expired license disc, leading to a heated argument and alleged assault, the report said.
