Durban — The man accused of double murder, Elias Mkhize, made his first appearance in court on Friday after he brutally shot and chopped the heads off of his mother and sister.
Mkhize appeared in the Richmond Magistrate’s Court after he was charged with the murder of his 87-year-old mother and his 39-yera-old sister. Mkhize allegedly killed them and chopped their heads off in a brutal murder. He was arrested and found in an illegal possession of a firearm, believed to be the weapon used in the crime.
Mkhize received a reprieve during his court appearance due to the absence of his legal aid. As a result of this, and pending further investigations, the matter has now been postponed to 25 January 2024, EWN reported.
Community member Mmeli Ngcongo was among the few who went to the scene after the incident.
” We all went to the scene, shocked as we were, and we found the community and the family that was still traumatised, as we found two bodies still lying outside the house and their heads were cut off,” Ngcongo said.

Meanwhile, another EWN report, the ANC KZN thinks that Mkhize should not be granted bail in anyway after he and some party members held a picket outside the court.
“It is a very painful tragedy that took place so inhumanely. We’ve just finished the 16 days of activism, yet we have a person who have the audacity to kill his biological mother and sister. It is terrible,” Duma said,
“If you can kill your own mother, you are terrible, and you are not qualified to be called a male. It means you are shame, and such people don’t deserve bail,” he added.
