Cape Town – The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and Kouga Municipality have warned sea users to be cautious after a Cape Town surfer was attacked by a shark in Jeffreys Bay.
The 50-year-old surfer was attacked around 17:30 at Supertubes on Wednesday, said the NSRI, who responded to the incident.
“On arrival at the scene, NSRI medics assisted public members who had already applied trauma pads to a bite wound sustained by the surfer who was safe out of the water.
“The patient, believed to be aged 50 from Cape Town, was in a stable condition and he was in good spirits,” said NSRI.

It is said that fellow surfers, who initially retreated out of the water after being alerted about a shark incident, returned to the surf to help the injured man out of the water.
“The NSRI and Kouga Municipality are appealing to bathers, surfers and sea users in the area to be cautious following this incident.” NSRI said.
This comes after a 40-year-old man who was free diving at Mdumbi beach in the Eastern Cape was attacked by a shark on Monday.
The man sustained lacerations but was in a stable condition before he was airlifted to Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha for further medical care.
