Cape Town principal gunned down outside school

Cape Town — The Community of Wallacedene in Kraaifontein were rocked following the death of a school principal who was shot outside his school on Thursday morning.

In a statement, the Western Cape’s Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes detectives were on the scene and searched for clues following the shooting incident.

“At about 07:00, two persons stopped at the entrance of an institute of learning at Henzikile Street, Wallacedene, in their white Mahindra vehicle. Three unidentified males approached the victims’ vehicle and opened fire at them, which led to the death of a 54-year-old male and an injured female who was admitted to hospital. The suspects fled the scene in an unknown vehicle,” Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

In an X post, South African Communist Party (SACP) Western Cape provincial secretary, Benson Ngqentsu, condemned the killing of th eprincipal and urged for greater security in the area.

“As SACP Provincial Secretary and ANC MPL deployed in the Kraaifontein area, I urge law enforcement authorities to thoroughly investigate this heinous crime and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. My heart goes out to the school community, and I had the opportunity to visit the school and convey my condolences to the teachers and learners,” he said.

“We will also be visiting the principal’s family in the next few days to offer our support during this difficult time. The safety of our educators and learners is of utmost importance, and we cannot tolerate such acts of violence in our communities. I call on everyone to work together to ensure that our schools remain safe spaces for learning,” he added.
