Cape Town – Four South African cities have been named amongst the most dangerous cities in the world by the Mexican Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice in its latest report.
The report looked at 50 countries, and only considered cities with populations greater than 300 000. It also based its rankings solely on the number of murders per 100 000 people.
Cape Town has the highest number of murders in South Africa, as it sits in the 11th spot, with a murder rate of 62.22% people murdered per 100 000, the report shows.
At number 23 is Gqeberha (Nelson Mandela Bay), with a murder rate of 52.3% per 100 000 people.

Mexico dominates the list, with eight of the most violent cities in the top 10.
Zamora, in Mexico, is ranked as the most violent city in the world, with over 196 murders per 100 000 people.
