Cape Town — The Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association (KKKA) confirmed that it is ready to host the annual Tweede Nuwe Jaar (Second New Year) street parade.
The KKKA partnered with the City of Cape Town (CoCT) and Hollywoodbets in a showcase of one of Cape Town’s proudest and most vibrant heritages. According to KKKA director, Muneeb Gambeno, more than 20 000 performers from 18 minstrel troupes are expected to parade through Cape Town on Saturday, EWN reported.
“The build-up is going well in the CBD and traffic advisory services are out. We are closing roads tomorrow morning at 6am, and we are very excited to welcome the 20,000 troupe members and the 100,000 spectators in the city,” Gambeno said.
He said the partnership with the CoCT and Hollywoodbets has helped significantly, covering the costs of the parade up to R50 million. Gambeno said the parade would not have been possible without their support.

“Without their support, we simply would not be able to offer and present this carnival to Cape Town. Of course, we also have the city of Cape Town as a partner, I would not want to detract from the value that they add to the carnival, but we can’t do it without corporate sponsors.”
According to TimesLIVE, the parade will start in the iconic District Six and will head towards Bo-Kaap and into the CBD. Gambeno said the parade is expected to start at 12:30pm, with streets expected to be closed between 6am and 11:55pm.
“This is always a special time for thousands of residents who get the opportunity to celebrate and honour long-standing traditions that form part of the fabric of this great city,” said safety and security MMC JP Smith.
Smith said the CoCT is proud to collaborate with the Cape Malay Choir Board and the KKKA to provide financial and logistical support to ensure the traditions are honoured for many years to come.
