Polokwane – A 37-year-old foreign national was arrested at the Beitbridge Port of Entry in Musina, Vhembe District, for possession of illegal explosives, police confirmed on Friday.
The arrest took place on Thursday night, April 3, 2025, during a routine inspection by police officers at the South Gate.
Officers stopped a white truck with Gauteng registration plates and, upon searching the vehicle, discovered two boxes containing illegal explosives worth an estimated R300,000.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck was en route to Gauteng Province.

“The suspect was immediately arrested, and the vehicle was confiscated,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the officers for their swift action in intercepting the explosives.
“The interception of these explosives is a significant achievement in our ongoing efforts to combat crime and protect our communities. We will continue to strengthen security measures at all entry points to prevent such illegal activities,” she said.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of possession of illegal explosives.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
