Midrand – Two businessmen who were hijacked and kidnapped in Midrand on Monday have been safely rescued by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team in a swift, multi-agency operation.
The men were ambushed on the premises of a car rental company by suspects driving a silver/grey Hyundai i10.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the victims were forcibly taken to a bushy area along the R21, where they were held at gunpoint and coerced into handing over their bank cards and PINs. The kidnappers then proceeded to withdraw large amounts of money from their accounts.
“A multidisciplinary team led by the SAPS Anti-Kidnapping Task Team were alerted and immediately mobilised.

“The SAPS would like to assure the nation that it has the necessary expertise to rescue victims of kidnappings. “We urge friends, family and bystanders to immediately alert the SAPS when they become aware of any crime, including an active kidnapping.”
The SAPS has commended the swift and coordinated response of all teams involved, including the National Crime Intelligence Counter and Security team, SAPS Flying Squad, Police Emergency Services, Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, and Vision Tactical Security Company.
A manhunt is currently underway for the suspects, who remain at large and are believed to be using the Hyundai i10 to carry out their crimes. Authorities are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or information related to the incident.
