Cape Town – A couple was fatally shot in Mzokhulayo, Ndwedwe, on the KZN North Coast in the early hours of Monday morning.
Residents reported multiple gunshots, leading Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) to dispatch officers to the scene.
“Reaction officers were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 00:09. The bullet riddled bodies of a man and a woman were discovered inside a white Ford Ranger bakkie. The vehicle had been shot multiple times with a high calibre weapon,” Rusa said.
The motive for the murders remains unclear, and provincial police are investigating the case.
KwaZulu-Natal has been experiencing a surge in gun violence, with factors such as lawlessness and easy access to dangerous weapons contributing to the problem, according to criminologist Professor Witness Maluleke.
