Kimberley – A 20-year murder sentence was handed down to Eldene Wilkinson in the Kimberley High Court for killing his pregnant girlfriend in May.
According to Police Spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock, Wilkinson stabbed his girlfriend fatally after a dispute.
“On 15 May 2022 Eldene Wilkinson (30) and his girlfriend Danielle Van Der Linde (29) had an altercation which led to the fatal stabbing of the Danielle at her house in Florianville in Kimberley,” Kock added.
“Danielle was pregnant at the time and Wilkinson stabbed her twice in the neck. Wilkinson fled the scene but handed himself over to the following day to the police,” he added.

Police opposed bail and the accused remained in custody up until his sentencing.
According to SAPS, Eldene Wilkinson pleaded guilty and entered into a plea bargain with the state. On Tuesday, 11 October 2022 he was sentenced to 20 years of direct imprisonment in the Kimberley High Court for the murder.
Kock said that the Kimberley SAPS Station Commander called for victims of Gender Based Violence to speak out.
“Brigadier Nicky Mtongana applauded D/Cst Jon-Ross Webb from the Kimberley Serious and Violent Crimes unit for his meticulous investigation. He also reiterated that GBVF remains one of the priorities in the SAPS and called upon victims to speak out against these criminal acts,” he said.
