Potchefstroom – A 38-year-old man was apprehended on Thursday, November, 3 for the alleged murder of his 33-year-old girlfriend in Lomanyaneng, outside Mahikeng.
According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, information received by Police suggests that the suspect and the victim had an argument on Saturday, November, 30.
“That was after the girlfriend refused to accompany him to Kimberley in the Northern Cape. The suspect (boyfriend) again visited the girlfriend on Wednesday, 2 November 2022, at her home and allegedly stabbed the victim on her upper body,” the Lieutenant said.

The boyfriend then reportedly fled the scene and went to his employer’s house in Matlhonyane village. After hearing about the incident, the employer called the police. The suspect was arrested and transported to a local hospital after he told Police that he drank poison after stabbing his girlfriend.
“The suspect is currently under police guard at the hospital and is expected to appear in court as soon as he is released,” Funani said.
“Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the incident. He congratulated Lomanyaneng Detectives for acting fast in arresting the suspect to ensure that he faces the full might of the law,” she added.
