Cape Town – An eight-year-old boy was reportedly mauled to death by a neighbour’s pitbull while playing alone at his home in Vista Park, Bloemfontein on Saturday.
Free State police said the dog had to be shot dead following the incident, reports said.
According to Times Live, the dog attacked Olebogeng Mosime, a grade 3 pupil from Roseview Primary, and bit him severely on the neck and chest.
The dog had allegedly escaped from its enclosure and jumped over the fence into the neighbour’s premises.

“The police and paramedics were summoned to the scene and the boy was declared dead on the scene,” the report quoted police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thabo Covane as saying.
The Citizen reported that the pitbull was still in the yard, covered in blood when the paramedics arrived.
“The emergency response officer then retrieved his firearm and shot the dog, but the dog did not go down. It was only when SAPS members arrived and opened multiple shots that the dog went down,” the report said.
