Cape Town – The body of the 62-year-old wife of former Springbok rugby coach Peter de Villiers was reportedly found floating in a swimming pool in Gqeberha on Monday.
According to EWN, Theresa de Villiers apparently drowned in the swimming pool while visiting relatives.
Police said an inquest docket had since been opened.
“SAPS Walmer is investigating an inquest after the body of a woman was found floating in a pool in Fairview this afternoon, 4 April 2022.
No foul play suspected
“It is alleged that at approximately 12:00, the body of a 62 year old woman was found in the swimming pool at a house in Redbud Street in Fairview. The deceased is from Paarl, but was visiting family in Gqeberha. She was found in the pool by a family member. No foul play is suspected,” IOL quoted police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg as saying.
Following the incident, messages of condolences have been pouring in for De Villiers, including from the political party GOOD, who elected him as a councillor last year.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to you during this difficult time. May strength, peace, love surround you as you and your family go through this difficult time,” the party tweeted.

News24 reported that De Villiers also lost his daughter, Odille Monk, 28, to cancer in December 2019.
