Cape Town – Police Minister Bheki Cele is challenging Parliament’s decision to sanction him with an apology to anti-crime activist Ian Cameron.
Cele was found guilty of breaching the code of ethical conduct for MPs after a heated exchange with Cameron at a crime imbizo in Gugulethu last July.
According to EWN, rhe breach pertained to a complaint arising from the police imbizo.
During the event, crime activist Ian Cameron accused Cele of lacking dignity when he instructed him to “shut up”.
Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests has decided to recommend to the National Assembly that Cele publicly apologise to Cameron in the House for his behavior during the imbizo.

Despite Parliament’s call for an apology, Cele has refused, describing the sanction as “laughable” and intends to take the decision to review, News24 reported.
“What is even more laughable was the sanction of what I must do,” he told journalists during a media briefing on Tuesday morning, according to the report.
“I will take this to review; I don’t agree with it. I will be taking it on review,” he said.
Ian Cameron has called for Cele’s resignation, asserting that Cele appears power-hungry and should step down gracefully, the report said.
