Cape Town – The not-for-profit organisation Betereinders launched its “Not USA, but You SA” campaign in Pretoria on Saturday, rejecting claims that Afrikaners are victims who need refuge in the US due to government land policies.
The campaign follows criticism from President Cyril Ramaphosa, who accused Afrikaner lobby groups AfriForum and Solidarity of spreading divisive narratives about property rights.
Speaking at the event, Betereinders member Schalk van Heerden said Afrikaners should embrace their identity within South Africa rather than seek external intervention.

“The idea we want to get out there is that Afrikaners are not victims. As normal South Africans, we love each other.
“Africa includes Africans and Afrikaners,” Times Live quoted Van Heerden as saying.
The group used a braai as a symbolic gesture of unity, promoting the message that Afrikaners are not victims but part of a diverse South African community.
AfriForum’s Kallie Kriel and Solidarity’s Flip Buys were in the US recently and met with members of Trump’s administration to advocate for the interests of Afrikaners in South Africa.
The group presented a memorandum to showcase alleged human rights violations against Afrikaners, as well as the African National Congress’s (ANC) poor governance.

They urged the US to recognise Afrikaners as a cultural community, increase support for cultural infrastructure, and pressure ANC leaders to change their policies instead of imposing sanctions.
“Pressure be put on South Africa to declare farm murders a priority crime and to take decisive action against those calling for violence against Afrikaners.
“Pressure be also be put on the South African Government to revise the Bela Act, the Expropriation Act and legistlation that discriminates on the basis of race,” read part of the memo.
