Baby found lying on top of his mother’s lifeless body

Cape Town – A woman’s body was discovered in a field near the R114 and Pretorius Street intersection in Laezonia, Gauteng, with her baby on her chest on Friday.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) said in a statement that a local resident heard what sounded like a gunshot near his home around 19:00. A baby was also heard crying.

“Upon investigation, they (the residents) found a horror scene with a baby, laying on top of his mother in the grass next to the road.

The woman was believed to be in her late 20s while the baby was believed to be about 8 months old.

The baby sustained no injuries and was taken to a place of safety.

Details surrounding the gruesome incident remained unknown.

An investigation has been opened by the police.
