Addis Ababa – The head of the African Union Commission welcomed an announcement by Ethiopia’s Tigray rebels on Sunday that they were willing to take part in AU-led peace negotiations as a “unique opportunity” to end the nearly two-year war.
In a statement, Moussa Faki Mahamat also urged “both parties to urgently work towards an immediate ceasefire, engage in direct talks, in an AU-led process that is inclusive of mutually agreed international partners”.
